GIORGIO SOMMER and SOMMER & BEHLES
German (1834 – 1914)
Sommer arrived in Naples from Frankfurt in the late 1850s. Commercially minded, he rapidly enriched the archives of his studio with views of every genre, even the battlefields at Gaeta in 1861, and went on to open branches in various Italian cities, together with Edmond Behles, a German. His prolific career included images of the Vatican Museum, the Museum at Pompeï, Naples, Florence, Rome, Capri and Sicily.
