ADOLPHE BRAUN
French (Besançon 1812 – Dornach 1877)
A fabric designer, Braun opened an atelier in Dornach in 1847, which rapidly became prosperous. He entered the field of photography with images of flowers in 1854-1855. Immensely successful, he surrounded himself with family partners to exploit this new commercial success. In 1866 Braun started a large undertaking of landscape images (stereoscopic views) of Germany, Alsace and Savoie. His large format (40cm x 50cm) and panoramic views demonstrated visual strength and his reputation was confirmed. His name is synonymous with quality photographic work.
